On Saturday, February 24th, Rear Admiral Takaaki Hayamizu, the Defense and Naval Attaché, Embassy of Japan in the United States, paid his first visit to Seattle as a featured speaker for the 9th Japan-U.S. Military Program (JUMP) at NVC Memorial Hall. Rear Admiral Mark Sucato, Commander, U.S. Navy Region Northwest also keynoted the event organized by Japan-America Society of the State of Washington in partnership with the Nisei Veterans Committee and supported by the National Association of Japan America Societies (NAJAS) and Sasakawa USA.
Four NVC members — Allen Nakamoto, Bob Nakamura, Danny Ing, and Dale Kaku — presented the colors for the Day of Remembrance observation on the floor of the Washington State House of Representatives on February 19.

On February 12, a conferment ceremony and reception were held at the official residence of Consul-General of Japan in Seattle Makoto Iyori and his wife, Yuko, to congratulate Dale Kaku, former commander of the Nisei Veterans Committee, on his receipt of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays.
