Tsuru for Solidarity — Kintsugi 2024: Healing and Repair of Japanese American Community Trauma from WWII
October 3-6, 2024 (Starting at 1pm on October 3rd, ending by 1pm on October 6th)
Japanese American National Museum & DoubleTree by Hilton Los Angeles Downtown

A first of its kind gathering for Japanese Americans focused on intergenerational trauma and repair. As a metaphor of the precious celadon bowl, fractured and repaired, and thus, more treasured than ever, this gathering for Japanese Americans is focused on understanding our community trauma and exploring healing practices now and for the future. The program will take place in historic Little Tokyo, Los Angeles and will feature speakers, workshops, and restorative practices. Participants will also have ample time in intentional discussion and reflection groups to process their experiences. Over the course of four days, participants will learn more about what intergenerational trauma is, and how Nikkei have understood and responded to intergenerational trauma. We will engage in practices of repair and see solidarity action as one of those practices. As a means of further strengthening our community we will also learn from other communities engaged in reparative work. Registration information: https://tsuruforsolidarity.org/current-campaigns/kintsugi/

The 30-minute documentary from Jon Osaki, Reparations, explores the four-century struggle to seek repair and atonement for slavery in the United States. Black and Asian Americans reflect on the legacy of slavery, the inequities that persists, and the critical role that solidarity between communities has in acknowledging and addressing systemic racism in America. This story is told by Black and Asian Americans who believe that our collective liberation can only be achieved by standing with one another. Reparations seeks to raise awareness of the Black reparations struggle and how vital it is to healing this country.
