“Beyond Belief – True Stories of Washington State Heroes that Defy Comprehension” is a unique compilation of short stories by a team of a dozen authors and researchers.

Each short story is presented in a historically factual manner.  Each of the stories in the book include not only all of Washington State’s Medal of Honor Recipients, but nearly 100 other heroes who received Service Crosses, Silver Stars, and other awards. More than 80 cities, towns, and communities in Washington can claim these as hometown heroes.

The book, “Beyond Belief – True Stories of Washington State Heroes that Defy Comprehension”, includes stories of Washington State Heroes from the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, and War on Terrorism.  There are also names listed for the Philippine Insurrections and Interim periods (1900 – 1917), (1975 – 2001).

Of note is the section of the book entitled, “Nisei Heroes of World War II’ – “Go for Broke”.  Many of the names listed in this section of the book will no doubt have a ring of familiarity associated with them.  Among the familiar names are William K. Nakamura (Medal of Honor) and James K. Okubo (Medal of Honor).
