Installation of the security fence on the South portion of the parking lot with automated gates started on August 1st. Electrical conduits were laid out and encased in concrete. We expect a completion date of August 26th. I’ll explain in future newsletters how members, volunteers, and guests will access the NVC Memorial Hall parking lot and the NVCF Memorial Wall on the backside of the lot.
Interim Chief of Police Adrian Diaz, Seattle Police Department, dropped by while we were laying out the electrical conduit. The crew from All City Fencing were impressed that the Chief drives by NVC on his way to work!
I attended the Oregon WWII Nisei Memorial Highway dedication on August 13th. It was quite an event with a few Nisei soldiers in attendance and many family members. This one was special for me because my late uncle, Kenji Yaguchi, 232nd Combat Engr Bn, was recognized along with his fellow WWII Nisei Oregonians. The September issue will highlight this special recognition in more detail.
Finally, I sincerely thank all the new and seasoned volunteers who make projects and events run smoothly at NVC. As a token of appreciation, I handed the Nisei Luncheon volunteers the NVC challenge coin at the July and August event. Again, my thanks and appreciation to you.
