June’s Nisei Lunch featured a Hawaiian plate lunch menu consisting of Mochiko Chicken Wings, green salad, a scoop of Hawaiian Mac Salad, a scoop of rice and Nimono prepared by Chef Shinbo. For dessert, volunteer Sue Beeson prepared a fabulous strawberry shortcake (probably the best I’ve ever eaten!)
In keeping with the “Hawaiian Plate Lunch” theme the tables were decorated with a pineapple centerpiece (paper mâché – nonedible). There were leis provided for our guests and even Chef Jim got into it by wearing a straw hat and a grass skirt while cooking in the kitchen.
In July, the menu will be a Summer Picnic / 4th of July theme with Fried Chicken, Mac and Cheese, green salad, and dessert. There may be some changes to this menu, however this will be the basic menu for July.
We have noticed an increase in the number of guests that we have been serving (in-person) over the past several months, and we are really pleased that more folks are attending the lunch. That said, it is even more important for those that would like to attend the Nisei Lunch that you RSVP so we can plan our food purchases to cover the number of meals served.
Those interested in attending or who have any questions, please contact, Keith Yamaguchi at K.YAMA1948@GMAIL.COM and I will respond or include your name(s) on the RSVP list.
Take care and have a safe and Happy Fourth of July with family and friends. We hope to see you at a future Nisei Lunch!
