On the second Friday of the month at the Nisei Veterans Committee (NVC) Memorial Hall veteran members gather at 1000 hrs (aka 10 am Pacific Time) for Talk Story! Talk Story is a Hawaiian saying to pass on traditions through storytelling, or to have casual conversations.

OREGON NISEI VETERANS WWII MEMORIAL HIGHWAY

Oregon Senate Bill (SB) 1509 provided that a portion of Route 35 be known as “Oregon Nisei Veterans WWII Memorial Highway.” Last month SB 1509 passed the Oregon Senate and House and is on its way to the Governor for signature.

GEORGE TAKEI – KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT NATIONAL CHARACTER AND LEADERSHIP SYMPOSIUM

Lieutenant General Richard M. Clarke, Superintendent, US Air Force Academy, invited actor George Takei to be the keynote speaker at their annual National Character and Leadership Symposium. General Clarke mandated that the Class of 2025 read Takei’s book, “They Called Us Enemy.”

NVC FOUNDATION HOMEMADE PIE SALE – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED IN JUNE!

This year we plan to make 140 pies using Matsue Watanabe’s Apple Pie recipe for sale at the NVC Chow Mein Dinner on June 12. Matsue, who recently passed away, used to Chair the Bakery Booth for the Women’s Auxiliary. We hope to keep this tradition going!
